(PRWeb) January 31, 2007 -- "The Phat 5" of College Basketball at 500 Report Volume #7 (Super Bowl Week)

Kentucky 104 years, 1903-2006-07
N. Carolina 97 years, 1911-2006-07
UCLA 88 years, 1920-2006-07
Kansas 109 years, 1899-2006-07
Duke 102 years, 1906-2006-07

"The Phat 5" nickname come from the P-H-AT acronym that means "Producing History At the Tournament" (Final Four) for the 5 "Greatest" college basketball programs of All-Time.

"The Phat 5" of College Basketball at 500 Report Volume #7 (Super Bowl Week) is dedicated to Forrest "Phog" Allen. Coach Allen played his college basketball at Kansas from 1905-09. He was coached at KU by Dr. James Naismith who was the inventor of basketball. He lettered 3-years at KU. Coach Allen was known as the "Father of Basketball Coaching." In 49-seasons of coaching he compiled a 771-233 record. He led the Jayhawks for 39-seasons and won an amazing 590 games as basketball head. He won the 1952 NCAA National Championship. During his tenure Adolph Rupp (Kentucky) and Dean Smith (UNC) both played under Coach Allen at KU. Smith and Rupp are number 2 and 3 on the NCAA All-Time winningest coach list as both are icons of the "Phat 5" programs that they coached. Coach Allen retired from Kansas in 1956 the season before Wilt Chamberlain would sport the KU uniform. He was enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959. The arena of the campus of Kansas (Allen Field-house) is named in his honor.

The "Super 5" of "The Phat 5"
Kentucky- Randolph Morris is averaging 15.6 ppg. and 7.6 rpg.
N. Carolina- Tyler Hansbrough is averaging 18.2 ppg. and 8 rpg.
UCLA- Arron Afflalo is averaging 17.1 ppg.
Kansas- Brandon Rush is averaging 14.3 ppg. and 6.0 rpg.
Duke- Josh McRoberts is averaging 13.0 ppg., 8.1 rpg., and 4.0 apg.

Randolph Morris has not been the force that Kentucky needs. His scoring, rebounding, and minutes have been all down the last 3-games. Tyler Hansbrough has been a leader for UNC. He's no longer a front-runner for the Player of the Year with the emergence of Alando Tucker (Wisconsin) and Kevin Durant (Texas). Arron Afflalo has increased his scoring for the Bruins but needs to more aggressive with his moves to the rim. He also needs to be more automatic at the charity stripe. Brandon Rush has improved his scoring and rebound averages for Kansas. Rush and Jayhawks are peaking at the right time during this season. Josh McRoberts has been the best all-around big man in college basketball for the exception of Kevin Durant. McRoberts is a definite lottery-pick if leaves Duke-land after the season.
