Kansas Steakhouse Moving to Greener Pastures
Leawood, Kan. (PRWEB) June 20, 2008 -- After years of deliberating and trying to find the most affordable option, the Hereford House in Leawood, Kansas - a concept of Kansas City-based Anderson Restaurant group - has added three all-natural, locally purchased beef items to its menu, and has recently been featured in the Kansas City Business Journal for its new green initiatives.
The Hereford House began the "easy" measure of recycling boxes three years ago by eliminating about 90 percent of plastic foam in favor of recyclable plastic and paper to-go containers, and now features a corn-fed fillet, strip steak and hamburger that are free of antibiotics and synthetic hormones.
Adding this meat to the menu is a greener option for Hereford House because it puts fewer non-natural substances into the environment through cattle waste, and is easier on cattle and more healthful for humans. The meat also comes from local sources, reducing transportation-related emissions.
This will allow the Hereford House to respond to National Restaurant Association research, which states 62 percent of consumers say they probably would choose a restaurant based on its environmental friendliness.
"Where we can reduce utility costs, there's an economic benefit," says Rod Anderson, president of Anderson Restaurant Group. "Also, the world, at least the U.S. part of the world, is becoming much more aware of the impact businesses and individuals have on the environment. We feel like we need to do our part as a business."
